Station Tavern, enjoy a beer while the kids play in the outdoor playground. Convenient for parents to be able to have a drink and actually sit and talk while the kids play, though it seemed like some parents were considering it free daycare. At one point there was a little girl who couldn't have been more than 3 following Casey around with her dinosaur and no parent in the area. I am slightly skeptical if this place will actually last. There didn't seem to be any rules or age limits. There were 10 year olds playing along side 2 year olds and creepy older people that don't even have children can just walk in. Like Casey for instance....though he was playing a sick game of 'hide the chalk' with Malia and Brendan.
Went camping with George and Beth this Saturday at S. Carlsbad State Beach. We had a perfect oceanfront spot - with a good surf break down below. We could even check the surf without getting out of the tent (C-H+ south swell lines). We'll be going back there for sure.
MOUNT WOODSON VIA POWAY LAKE...do it for the burn, not the view! HOT, dry, lots of lizards crossing the trails, HOT, pretty flowers in bloom, HOT, the calming scent of sage, nice breeze at the top, along with the beautiful view of....radio towers!!!
Pics below were taken while hiking on a section of the Pacific Crest Trail in Warner Springs, CA this past weekend. We ran into a several hikers who started at the US/Mexico border and were hiking the entire 2,650 miles. One of them was Sticky Fingers. She's from Portland and is doing the entire trail solo. Of all the people we saw on the trail, she was easily the strongest - consistently pulling 20-25mile days. We saw her on Saturday a few miles outside of Warner Springs chillin' on the side of trail...and if you check out her blog, she's made it to the top of 10,834' Mt San Jacinto 3 days later. That's 25mile days solid, plus 10k' of elevation.
Forgot to post these photos last week. The name of this band is ZIP ZAP. They're 2 brothers who are 7 & 12 years old. They write their own songs and kill it!
We have George to thank for this one. Without going into detail, I'll just say great skill is required - and we're stepping it up for 2011 with 2 person teams and a relay at the bottom of Cornice.
