Vin De Syrah....
Alice in Wonderland meets wine bar. To enter, you walk down a graffiti stairway in the sidewalk as if you are about to enter a subway station. But when you arrive at the bottom, you are presented with a small area and 2 locked doors that are hidden with some trippy designs...the real door to enter the bar is hidden in a wall of grass.....the whole time you are surveillanced while people inside the bar watch you on a screen and laugh at you trying to get in. Luckily, I found the door quickly because I fear Casey would have been lost in the tiny 6x6 underground space for a while :)
Step into the scene.....over-sized chairs, grass walls, umbrellas, cards and candles hang from the ceiling....straight out of the movie and a trip down memory lane for sure!
I am glad we went for happy hour because it was super mellow and great music...I heard it gets a little rowdy at night.
Next stop, Toscana Cafe....
Just as the name suggests, a tuscan style cafe. We had passed this spot a few weeks back on a trip to Veeco. At the time it was under renovation and we spoke to the owners outside and told them we would be back. We followed through on that promise and were glad we did. Excellent tapas and vino. They also serve breakfast which I would be curious enough to go back for, you know, since we are often downtown on weekend mornings.
Last stop....Anthology.
A fancier style venue but definitely worth it, picture Blue Note style for those who have been. The Wood Brothers played a short set that was completely satisfying.
Next up....Big Sam comes to SD!
